I created this website in 2008 as a way to share my experiencies as a tortoise keeper, especially about Burmese star tortoises which at the time were not very common in captive collections.
I keep tortoises because I love them and they bring me so much joy. My tortoises are my precious pets. I don't have tortoises for the purpose of selling them. I am not a breeder/seller or a reptile business.
As a kid, I had several pets, including a Greek tortoise. As an adult, I've kept chelonians continuously well over two decades. I am not a veterinarian or a biologist. Nor am I a writer or a photographer. I am just an enthusiastic hobby tortoise keeper. Nuts about tortoises, you could say. :0)
I am the only person working on this website. I am not a tech person, but I have created the design, structure and content of this site from scratch. I have kept the website very basic and uncluttered on purpose; no bells and whistles here. I like the simple "retro" webpage look. :0) Photos are small and highly compressed for faster loading. They are for illustrative purposes only, not for photographic merit.
As the sole content writer and webmaster, I may have become quite blind to my own mistakes. Also, English is not my first language. So, please do excuse the grammar and style errors you may encounter on these pages. :0)
Burmese star tortoises are beautiful animals. This one has especially lovely golden-yellow skin. And he has a tiny bug on his nose. :0)
There's always so much more to learn about tortoises. This website is continually evolving and it's updated on and off. Consider it a work in progress.

Most photos are taken by me, but a few are generously provided by visitors with personal permissions. Those photos are always credited to the original photographers.
I dislike visiting websites full of annoying pop-up ads. Thus, my pages have none of those. No pops of any kind. Yeah! :0) However, keeping this website running costs me money. I have monthly and yearly fees to pay for the web hosting and the domain name. I am paying for pro level web hosting with faster speed and extra online security. Not cheap.
